Synopsis
Charles Duchemin, a well-known gourmet and publisher of a famous restaurant guide, is waging a war against fast food entrepreneur Tri- catel to save the French art of cooking. After having agreed to appear on a talk show to show his skills in naming food and wine by taste, he is confronted with two disasters: his son wants to become a clown rather than a restaurant tester and he, the famous Charles Duchemin, has lost his taste!

Part of me really wants to do a postcolonial analysis of this film. I find there's something very colonial/imperialistic about the restoration industry, specifically how world cuisine is exoticized and exploited in our society. The tastemakers are old white men who get to decide who's restaurant stays in business, and who doesn't. And why do they get to do that? Convention, tradition, money and power, rather than actually being good cooks themselves. There's plenty more to talk about, like Duchemin's relationship with his son, the past vs. the future of food, and the industrialization of food, but I'm in a class right now so I should probably write notes for that instead of this lol

C'est un Bordeaux, un grand Bordeaux.
Un peu de pourriture noble en suspension, les impuretés descendent lentement : ce vin a vingt-trois ans, c'est un 53, une très grande année.
Le vin c'est la terre, celle ci est légèrement graveleuse, c'est un Médoc.

Für wen könnte das Essen mehr Lebensmittelpunkt sein als für einen passionierten Restaurantkritiker?
Louis de Funès mimt dem französischen Restaurantkritiker Charles Duchemin, der es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht hat, die französische Küche auf ein absolut bestes Niveau zu hieven. Er besitzt den perfekten Gaumen und die perfekten Verkleidungen möglichst ungehindert zur Tat zu streiten. Doch sein Sohn, der das Restaurantführerimperium eigentlich erben sollte, will lieber Clown werden. Doch sein großer Konkurrent, der den Markt mit billig produziertem Schweinefraß fluten möchte, will ihn aus dem Verkehr ziehen.

De Funès films are always the ultimate comfort films. The first hour of this is sublime - great concept and brilliantly executed. Feel like it loses its way a little when it gets to the factory and becomes overly farcical - I could've just watched him go restaurant to restaurant for another 40 minutes and enjoyed every minute. Still good fun though as expected.

Charles Duchemin (Louis de Funes) ein bekannter Feinschmecker, kämpft gegen den Fast-Food-Unternehmer Tricatel, um die Kunst des Kochens zu retten. Nachdem er zugestimmt hat in einer Talkshow aufzutreten, wird er mit zwei Katastrophen konfrontiert...
Ich habe früher immer sehr gerne Louis de Funes angesehen, besonders die Fantomas Filme mit ihm hatte ich immer wieder angeschaut.
Bei "Brust oder Keule" hatte ich auch glaube gesehen, aber das ist schon sehr lang her gewesen.
Als ich diesen Film nun wieder gesehen hatte, konnte mich der Film immer noch gut unterhalten.
Er war witzig und Louis de Funes war wirklich in diesem Film sehr lustig gewesen.
